Lubbock ISD approves five safety- and security-related grant applications to Office of the Governor

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved resolutions authorizing the district to apply for five safety- and security-related grants administered by the Office of the Governor.

District administrators told trustees the grants focus on school safety and infrastructure. Lane Soborad, who the board identified as the staff member working on the packages, said one cybersecurity request represented a $400,000 scope the district could not fully fund; the district will apply for $200,000 and, if awarded, provide the remaining funds to complete the work. Soborad said that if the district does not receive an award, the district will not proceed with the project that required the local match.

Board action A trustee moved and the board seconded the motion to adopt the resolutions; the board approved the measure 7-0. Trustees commended district staff for pursuing outside funding. The resolutions authorize staff to submit the required grant applications and to proceed with the requested matching plan only if an award is made.
