Summary
At the March 4 Whitestown Police Commission meeting, staff introduced a newly hired officer, summarized February response and training statistics, and announced enrollment for a Citizens Academy starting April 16.
The Town of Whitestown Police Commission heard a monthly report March 4 that introduced a newly hired officer, summarized department activity for February and outlined training completed ahead of a Citizens Academy starting in April.
The police chief said the department’s newest officer, David Cornett, started department training after a two-week jail shadowing detail and will begin patrol school and in-house training. "He came from IUPUI," the chief said.
The chief reported February activity totals of 1,300 calls for service, 532 traffic stops, 71 case reports, 39 arrests and 36 traffic accidents. He said criminal investigations recorded 16 crimes against property and 17 crimes against persons, and the department’s cyber unit handled 65 cases.
Training was described as a busy month. The chief said the training division logged 520 hours; all members completed cold-weather firearms and monthly defensive-tactics training. Command-level supervisors finished managing-critical-incident training. Canine officer Lockwood and his canine, Jeter, completed more than 200 hours of training, the chief said. Officer Parks attended Reid interview and interrogation training, and the Special Response Team attended three days of close-quarters tactical skills instruction through Norse Tactical.
The department also noted a rollout of new badges and updated signage at police facilities. The chief said graphics and uniform art remain in progress and will appear on department uniforms and on the police explorers program over the next few months.
The chief announced that enrollment for the next Citizens Academy will open on the department Facebook page, with classes beginning April 16 and a target of roughly 15 participants. He said the information would be posted the day after the commission meeting. The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for April 2 at 6 p.m.
The commission raised no formal questions during the presentation and took no formal action on the report itself.
