Vidor ISD presents Pine Forest and Vidor Middle School floor plans; trustees declare three properties surplus

District architects and administrators presented updated floor plans for a new wing at Pine Forest Elementary and for the Vidor Middle School remodel/additions at the Feb. 10 meeting; the board also declared three adjacent parcels — the former administration building, the former technology building and a rear parcel — surplus and authorized administration to advertise the properties for sale by sealed bid, pending follow-up on brokerage and sales strategy.

Presenters showed an updated set of drawings for Pine Forest that would add a new wing containing third-, fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms, administrative offices adjacent to the new classrooms, teacher collaboration space and restroom “pods.” District staff said the design would consolidate older and younger grade groupings and remove portable pre-K classrooms by moving younger grades into an existing newer section of the campus; staff told trustees that site-based feedback asked for an additional restroom pod and staff work space and that the design team would evaluate options to accommodate that request.

For the new Vidor Middle School plans, the presentation included classroom arrangements, three science labs, home-economics/science lab space and athletics/weight-room layouts that district staff said aimed to preserve current program offerings while increasing lab capacity. Administrators said weight-room and athletics spaces were sized to accommodate PE scheduling and afterschool athletics practices.

Separately, the board approved a resolution declaring surplus the surface-only interests in approximately 1.45 acres made up of three parcels (former administration building, former technology building, and adjacent behind-campus parcel) and authorized administration to place the property on the market. Trustees said they will consult with real-estate brokers before listing and will return to the board for formal broker selection and final sale procedures. The board vote to declare the parcels surplus and to proceed with advertising came with a unanimous 7–0 vote.
