DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — The Denham Springs City Council authorized the mayor to apply for and, if awarded, to accept an Office of Community Development local government assistance grant and enter into a contract to install windbreak panels or similar protection at the city animal shelter.
Planning staff said the project aims to add additional panels or windbreaks after a recent freeze exposed the shelter to severe weather impacts. The action authorizes the mayor to execute the grant contract if the award is made; no grant award amount or match requirement was specified in the council minutes.
Councilmember Dugas moved for approval and Councilmember Gilbert seconded; the motion passed by recorded roll call with all five councilmembers voting yes.
Staff said the work would be funded by the grant if awarded and that details of materials and timing would be included in the contract stage. The council’s action authorizes staff to proceed with the application and to execute contract documents if the grant is awarded.
