The Lake County Board of Supervisors read and adopted a proclamation designating March 2025 as Social Worker Appreciation Month and asked residents to join in recognizing local social workers.
Vice Chair Rasmussen read the proclamation on March 4, citing the profession’s role in protecting children and elderly residents and noting national themes such as "social work: compassion in action." The proclamation names social workers’ contributions across schools, social service agencies and health facilities and specifically acknowledges local adult protective services, IHSS social workers, child protective social workers, and employment services social workers.
"In recognition of the numerous contributions made by Lake County Social Workers the Lake County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of March 2025 as social worker appreciation month in Lake County," the proclamation states. The document was noted as "Passed and adopted this March 2025" and was signed by Chair EJ Crandall.
Rachel Doman Parsons, Lake County Social Services director, commended county social workers and thanked the board; deputy director Amy Schmanski described caseload growth and rising service needs since the pandemic and praised staff for continuing their work under pressure. Behavioral Health staff provided a prepared statement praising social workers’ role in the community.
The proclamation is ceremonial and recognizes county staff and community social workers; no budget or policy action accompanied the proclamation.
