Representatives of The Bridge Home told the Story County Board of Supervisors on March 4 that an eight-unit building funded under the American Rescue Plan Act is fully occupied and that staff have observed increased stability among residents.
Jody Stumbo, speaking for The Bridge Home, said all eight units are occupied after one unit required more extensive renovation because of prior indoor smoking. Sherry Riley, also of The Bridge Home, told the board that all eight residents had been chronically homeless at some point and that case managers are making referrals for food assistance, primary-care services, Social Security, and other wraparound supports.
Riley and Stumbo said the building has increased neighborly interactions and that residents are seeing some wage increases. They told supervisors the program uses yearly leases so residents may renew and remain long term if they choose, and that supportive-housing households are generally asked to pay 30% of income, while rapid-rehousing program rents vary by program terms and household income.
On the county-financial side, Riley said The Bridge Home has not filed an ARPA claim since January while staff work through accounting with a property manager and that a budget revision is expected before additional claims are submitted.
Supervisors asked how long residents can remain; staff said lease terms are annual with renewal options. Supervisors also asked about rent levels; staff responded that rents are based on HUD fair-market rent and program rules but did not provide definitive dollar amounts in the meeting.
The board took no separate financial action at this meeting; the presentations were received as agency reports.
