Pittsfield council unanimously endorses three state bills aimed at child-protection and hiring practices

On the record, she said the bills include (as described in the petitions) a measure addressing online child sexual-abuse material, a measure to enhance hiring practices to prevent abuse (described as including provisions in a referenced “Schedule A”), and a measure dealing with the age of consent.
Councilors Persip, Kavey and others spoke in support. Persip said the long delays in state action have undermined public confidence and urged the delegation to act. Councilor Piazzi urged a broader regional push to persuade the legislature to move the bills more quickly.
Councillor Warren said she would prepare a letter of support and consult with the mayor before sending it to the delegation.
