The guidance suggests using common presentation software to enable full-screen slides, renderings or video. Staff said a laptop can be connected to the room’s HDMI input and—where needed—commission staff or on-site technical help can assist with set-up and screen sharing.
Commissioners discussed making allowances for homeowners with small projects who might not have a laptop; the chair said the commission would be lenient in straightforward cases such as small decks or pools. The guidance will be included in the materials packet, placed on the commission’s website and communicated to engineers and firms that routinely appear before the commission.
Commissioner comments noted the approach could be useful across other city boards and commissions. The motion to include the guidance in packets and on the website passed by voice vote; commissioners asked staff to notify recurring applicants and engineering firms about the change. The commission set a flexible start window (March or April) to allow people time to prepare.
