Commission plans capital campaign and building committee for clubhouse; to recruit members and invite Taunton Development Corp.

The commission discussed steps to organize a capital campaign and a building committee for a proposed clubhouse capital project. Commissioners proposed creating two committees — a building committee and a capital-campaign committee — and suggested limiting membership to avoid quorum issues under open-meeting laws.

Members recommended identifying up to five people for each committee (the commission discussed a target of 5 per committee and compiling eight names overall to present at the March meeting). Commissioners asked for volunteers from frequent course users, event coordinators, a social-media/communications person, and someone with building or fundraising experience. One commissioner said committee members must be willing to solicit donations and complete banking and donation forms.

The commission discussed inviting Lou Ricciardi, identified as the president of the Taunton Development Corp., to the March meeting to explain recreation-earmarked funds available through the Taunton Development Corp. Commissioners noted that those funds are earmarked for recreation and might be available for clubhouse work. The commission agreed to return to the March meeting with nominee names and to select one commission member to serve as the internal point person for each committee (the commission said it would wait for an absent member, Seth, to have input before finalizing point-person votes). No formal motion to form committees or accept funds was recorded at this meeting; the discussion produced direction to identify committee candidates and to reserve meeting space for committee work if needed.
