BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Senate on March 3 approved House Bill 89, which updates statutory language governing the delegation of tasks from registered nurses (RNs) to licensed practical nurses (LPNs). Supporters said the change removes an ambiguous phrase and clarifies the scope of tasks that can be delegated.
Senator Galloway, who presented the bill on the floor, said the change replaces the term "contributing to" with the clearer phrase "performing appropriate delegated focused [tasks]," to better define what an LPN may perform under RN delegation. Supporters said the revision will aid clarity for practitioners and regulators.
An objection was not sustained on the floor and debate was limited. The secretary called the roll; the Senate recorded 34 votes in favor with one absent. The bill passed and will be returned to the House with the Senate’s approval.
