He said the department has a current forfeiture balance of “a little over $10,000” and proposed pairing the forfeiture money with $7,999.51 in unused budgeted police funds to reach the total cost.
According to staff, the existing interview-room equipment did not produce electronic media adequate for the District Attorney’s office to use as evidence. The department uses Motorola audio-visual systems in patrol vehicles and Motorola body-worn cameras, and the requested purchase is for compatible room recording equipment.
Council discussed the funding source and the need to authorize the use of forfeiture funds by motion. Councilmember Doctor Bruce moved to approve the purchase; the motion passed and was recorded as 6–0. No public comment was recorded on the item.
