Board assigns members to present warrant articles and readies materials for town meeting

With town meeting approaching, the Brentwood Town Board assigned members to present warrant articles and discussed the preparation of supporting materials to help voters.

Assignments and materials: Chair volunteered to present the operating budget (Article 1). Andy agreed to present the multiple capital reserve funds (CRFs) and will receive an updated PowerPoint slide showing each fund balance and whether money is requested this year. Paul will coordinate highway and vehicle articles with Wayne. Letty will present the solar and amphitheater CRFs and the board agreed to provide a slide similar to one the school used showing fund names, balances and goals.

Funding flexibilities discussed: Staff clarified that after warrant posting, certain transfers (for example discontinuing a CRF and returning funds to the unreserved fund balance) have limits and, depending on DRA guidance and meeting rules, may require specific wording or separate action. Andrea said DRA and legal counsel (NHMA) had advised that some adjustments may be permissible at town meeting and that Laura (legal counsel) could assist if members needed to tweak language in real time.

Logistics: The board confirmed the school will record and upload the meeting and volunteers will have printed warrant books and corrected pages available at town meeting. The board also discussed placing the tax cap warrant earlier in the agenda so it can remain open for the required hour.

Ending: Board members agreed to prepare and coordinate their slides and to be prepared to respond to voter questions at the town meeting.
