Port Orange schedules stormwater workshop after residents describe repeated flooding

Port Orange city officials scheduled a public workshop and outlined a multi-project stormwater strategy after residents described repeated, severe flooding in neighborhoods such as Sugar Forest and Herbert Street.

The city will host a public workshop at 5:30 p.m. March 25 in the City Hall chambers to present the Kimley‑Horn stormwater master plan, staff said. The study identifies nine priority projects city leaders say total more than $100 million and will be used to target funding, pursue land acquisition where appropriate and refine project designs.

The study and the March 25 workshop matter to homeowners because, residents and council members said, several neighborhoods have experienced flooding serious enough to damage homes and displace families. At the meeting, multiple residents recounted flood damage to foundations and recurring displacement; they asked when projects would begin and whether the city will use bond or state and federal grants to pay for construction.
