Liberty County Youth Commission reports activities, seeks continued support

Jada Cunningham, a senior at Liberty County High School and chair of the Liberty County Youth Commission, presented the commission's annual report to the Board of Commissioners.
Cunningham said the commission continued the SAIL program (Scholarship, Advocacy, Leadership and Empowerment), meets twice a month, developed SAIL-focused lesson plans, held community-service events including a blanket drive for people experiencing homelessness and participation in a walk-run for the homeless, and partnered with Keep Liberty Beautiful and other local groups. She said the commission held elections for officers and listed the officers by name: Ava Berger (vice chair), Mahi Patel (secretary), Emily LeCount (treasurer), Daisy Keller (story historian) and Marcia Carabella (parliamentarian).
Cunningham described a field trip to the state Capitol in Atlanta, where the youth commission met Representative Al Williams and met with Fulton County's youth commission for benchmarking and learning. Commissioners thanked the commission for presenting, acknowledged the county's recent budget increase that helped fund the trip, and asked the group what priorities they would advocate for; student speakers discussed youth civic engagement, resisting trends, and a desire for more family-oriented entertainment options in the county.
The board thanked the youth commissioners and invited them to take a group photo with commissioners at the close of the presentation.
