Committee passes bill consolidating corrections reporting requirements

Wade Hodge, chief of staff for the Department of Corrections, told the committee the bill does not change the substance of the information reported; it only consolidates the three reports so the material is delivered annually as one document. Representative Tash asked why the bill names the Board of Corrections as the reporting entity rather than the secretary of the division; Hodge said the department had not changed the original language and that the content would be compiled by the same staff either way and the department had no objection to making the secretary the named reporter if the committee preferred.
No one signed up to speak for or against the bill. Representative Gazzaway closed and moved to do pass; the committee voice-voted and the chair announced the ayes had it and that the bill passed.
