Council sets District 7 evening meeting June 2 on Fox Island; public asked for centrally located alternative

The Pierce County Council on Feb. 25 approved Resolution R2025‑107, establishing an evening District 7 council meeting for 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2025 at Nichols Community Center, 690 Ninth Avenue, Fox Island.
Ms. Long, council staff, briefed the council that the Pierce County charter requires an evening meeting in each of the county’s seven council districts each year and that the council’s rules delegate the specific time and place to a council resolution. Council member Alison Denson moved the resolution.
During the public hearing, an online caller asked the council to coordinate with the City of Gig Harbor and hold the meeting at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, arguing that a centrally located site would be easier for a broader set of District 7 constituents to attend. The caller noted that while an island location is convenient for Fox Island residents, travel from other parts of the district could be difficult.
Council member Morrell and Council member Denson each responded that the council intentionally rotates evening meetings among distinct communities in each district to increase accessibility for residents who otherwise might need to travel far. Denson noted past meetings in Gig Harbor and Long Branch and said the rotation aims to bring meetings to different localities.
The clerk called the roll and recorded seven ayes and no nays; the resolution was adopted. Council staff said the June 2 meeting will include a discussion of the Fox Island Bridge alternatives and encouraged residents to attend and review materials prepared by Planning and Public Works.
