Board approves district-wide emergency response plan after staff overview of training and coordination

The Beacon City School District Board of Education voted to adopt its annual district-wide emergency response plan following a staff presentation describing training, consultant involvement and coordination with local responders.
District staff member Matt said the district updates the plan annually and posted the district-wide document online for 30 days; individual building emergency response plans are confidential and are shared with state and local responders. Matt described a recent administrative full-day review with Alteris (a security consultant) and Mark Thomas, the district director of security, which included tabletop exercises and a planned reunification drill with an elementary school and the high school in the spring.
Matt told the board that each building maintains a building emergency response team led by the principal, that staff receive initial and refresher training, and that the district conducts summer training with local emergency personnel. The board closed the hearing and approved the plan 8 to 0.
The board did not record any additional direction beyond approval; staff said follow-up communications to the community will be required before a staged reunification drill that will alter schedules for the involved schools on the drill day.
