Thomas Wick of Gig Harbor raised a series of records‑management and law‑enforcement transparency concerns during community forum at the Pierce County Council meeting on Feb. 11. Wick said he had requested records from Pierce County Planning and Public Works and received a production billed at about 6,000 documents, many of which he said were duplicated or not responsive to his request. He told the council he considered the production and the billing practice to be improper and asked for the appropriate contact to seek follow-up.
Wick also said he had requested police body‑worn camera recordings related to an attempted attack at his residence on Oct. 2, 2022. He said the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department told him recordings are retained for a minimum of three years but he was later told the recordings were auto‑deleted one year after the incident; he asked the council to clarify the status of those recordings.
Finally, Wick said he filed a claim for damages on Jan. 22, 2025 with the county’s risk management office and had not received an acknowledgement or claim number. He asked the council for assistance in obtaining contact information and in resolving the three matters.
No council action or staff response resolving the requests was recorded during the meeting. Council members did not commit to a specific follow-up on the record during the session.
