Carl Hicks, a long-time Pierce County resident and applicant for reappointment, told the Pierce County Council on Feb. 4 that Tacoma Narrows Airport supports business, training and lifesaving medevac flights and asked the council to vote to reappoint him to the Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission.
The council adopted the consent agenda, which included the reappointment, by a roll call vote of 6-0. Council members praised Hicks’s experience and community work during brief remarks before the vote.
Hicks described the airport as an economic asset with “hundreds and hundreds of business people coming in and out of our community” and cited training programs, more than 100,000 annual takeoffs and landings, and medevac flights. He also said the airport has “years of deferred maintenance” including leaking hangar roofs and damaged hangar doors. He said he has “50 years of aviation experience” and recent election as chair of the commission and asked for the council’s support.
Council member Denson called attention to Hicks’s military service and longstanding involvement with airport events and programs. Council member Kreuger and others thanked Hicks for his community engagement and urged support for the reappointment. After public comment closed, the council voted to adopt the consent agenda, resulting in the reappointment moving forward as part of the consent items.
The reappointment will be recorded in the county’s appointments list; the consent agenda included other items and was adopted 6-0.
