Michigan City Finance Committee members voted to approve the Riverboat and Buoy claims docket for March 4, 2025, totaling $171,679.89, during a meeting on March 4.
The committee recorded the Riverboat fund (fund 2235) ending balance at $474,845.68 and a rainy-day fund (fund 2236) balance of $1,848,763.71. Committee members also noted a fiscal-year-to-date total shown during the meeting of $2,320,369.30 (presented as the fiscal-year total through the period ending March 31, 2025).
Committee discussion identified that the claim payment included a repayment to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) after a Community Crossings project (2023.2) closed out below its originally estimated cost. Committee members and staff explained that INDOT disbursed Community Crossings funds up front based on project estimates and that when the final project cost was lower than the estimate, INDOT required the city to return the excess funds.
The motion to approve the claims was moved by Dr. Cora and seconded by Mr. Beatrice; the presiding officer announced the motion carried with no opposition.
The committee opened the meeting for public comment and received none either in person or online. The committee then adjourned at about 6:17 p.m.
