Christo Bruce sworn in as commissioner designee for King County Fire District 47

Council Member Dunn (presiding as a speaker) said the appointment followed a unanimous recommendation after an interview: "We had a very, enlightened and good interview with Mr. Bruce this morning, determined, by unanimous vote that he is in fact the person we would love to have fill the vacancy in Fire District 47," Dunn said. Council members praised Bruce's community service and willingness to serve.
After the council voted to approve Proposed Motion 2025-0072 (the appointment) by roll call, Chair Grama Zahale administered the oath of office to Christo Bruce. Bruce repeated the oath, saying, "I am Christo Bruce, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and the laws of the state of Washington, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the office of King County Fire Protection District number 47 Board of Commissioners, Position 2, to the best of my ability." He offered brief remarks thanking the council and saying, "If I don't know the answer, I'm gonna find it."
Council members urged independence in how Bruce and the sitting commissioner determine future appointments to fill remaining vacancies. Council Member Dombowski encouraged local decision-making about who serves: "I just wanna make clear, that's totally up to you and Commissioner Stiles to determine based on who applies and what you feel is best for the district."
The council temporarily recessed earlier in the meeting to complete interviews before returning to vote on the appointment. After the roll-call vote, members welcomed Bruce and invited a group photo. The clerk recorded the motion as Proposed Motion 2025-0072; the motion passed 9-0.
Bruce was sworn in during the Feb. 25 meeting and signed the oath and related documents on the council record. He introduced his spouse and thanked council members for the opportunity to serve.
The appointment takes effect immediately; the council did not specify a term end date in the public record during this meeting.
