Police leadership said the 2024 annual report shows calls for service increased as the village grows and described a community information meeting on the police station that drew about a dozen citizens. Mike, a design consultant on the project, walked the board through four updated design boards including color-rendered site plans, interior renderings of the lobby and community room, and exterior material samples. Mike said the design retains principal brick facing along Bonnie Drive while using more cost-effective CMU (concrete masonry unit) toward the rear of the structure.
The board also discussed geothermal and exterior materials; Mike said attendees asked questions about materials and cost and that feedback was generally positive.
Separately, the board considered adding a mental-health program for officers and staff through Healthy Minds LLC, described by police leadership as a vendor that specializes in first-responder mental-health care. The chief said Healthy Minds offers an "annual wellness checkup" with counseling sessions for officers and department personnel and said the village would seek offsetting funds through CIVMIC (a grant program) to cover most of the estimated $3,000 annual cost to enroll the department.
The board approved a motion to implement the Healthy Minds program as part of police officer wellness. The chief said the vendor agreement had been reviewed by the village legal team and was ready for signature if the board approved.
Why it matters: The police station project is a visible capital program with public design input; the mental-health program adds a formal, counselor-led resource tailored to first responders and was approved with a planned funding source.
Looking ahead: Design work will continue and material choices will be refined in subsequent design meetings; staff will pursue CIVMIC grant support and finalize contract documents for the Healthy Minds program.
