Wind advisory; enhanced severe‑weather risk for much of Escambia County Tuesday night

A meteorologist warned Monday, March 3, that a line of storms tied to a cold front could bring damaging winds and a low risk of strong tornadoes to Escambia County late Tuesday, March 4.

The meteorologist said a wind advisory will be in effect from noon Tuesday until midnight because “sustained winds [of] up to 25 miles an hour and gusts up to 45 miles an hour are expected.” The Storm Prediction Center had expanded a level 3 of 5 enhanced risk to include the majority of Escambia County, with the county’s far southern portion in a level 2 of 5 slight risk.

“The main time frame for severe storms in Escambia County looks to be 09:00 tomorrow night through about 1AM or so,” the meteorologist said, adding that the primary threat from any severe storm would be damaging straight‑line winds, which could reach about 60 mph. He also noted that the hatched region on the tornado outlook — the area with enhanced shading — indicates an increased probability for strong tornadoes, including those of EF2 strength, although he said that probability remains low.

The meteorologist emphasized uncertainty about how much instability will be in place when the storms arrive, saying daytime cloud cover will reduce heating and the severe threat, while clearer skies could increase it. “There is high uncertainty,” he said, “with how strong or how severe storms could be.”

Residents and agencies in Escambia County were advised to monitor weather updates as conditions evolve; the meteorologist closed the briefing saying staff would provide the latest information as it becomes available.
