Committee unanimously backs a resolution to explore an energy compact with Idaho and Wyoming

The committee unanimously recommended House Concurrent Resolution 9, a nonbinding resolution urging continued collaboration with Idaho and Wyoming on energy issues, including transmission, permitting and innovation.
Representative Moss presented HCR9 as an effort to formalize ongoing conversations between Utah, Idaho and Wyoming on shared energy challenges, including transmission siting and regulatory coordination. He said governors and legislators from the neighboring states have engaged and that a compact could increase state coordination with the federal government and ease permitting timelines.
Senator Milner said multistate collaboration would help address energy licensing, permitting and federal engagement. There was no public opposition during the committee’s public-comment period and the committee voted unanimously to pass the resolution with a favorable recommendation.
