Committee advances SB 272 to broaden where micro‑schools may operate

The sponsor said the changes remove duplicative square-footage requirements and align definitions between the education code and health/building code so departments use the same language.
John England of the Libertas Institute spoke in favor, describing how micro‑schools serve specific student needs in places such as Moab. Representative Box moved to favorably recommend SB 272; the committee recorded a vote of 10 to 1, with Representative Moss voting no. Sponsor and witnesses said the bill was prepared in consultation with the fire marshal, League of Cities and Towns, and Association of Counties and that those groups raised no objections.
