Council approves $108,000 appropriation to cover corporation counsel salary adjustments

The Carmel Common Council on March 3 approved Ordinance D-27-64-25, an additional appropriation of $108,000 from the general fund (101) to the Office of Corporation Counsel budget (1180) to cover salary increases implemented earlier in the year.
Councilor Taylor read the synopsis and staff member Zach explained the appropriation covers the calendar-year cost of salary increases for two attorneys, including related employer costs such as FICA and workers' compensation. "This 108 gets them through the rest of the year for those salary increases and the other incurred costs that go along there," Zach said.
The council suspended the rules and acted the same evening; the motion to approve passed unanimously, 9-0.
No public comment was offered at the hearing and staff said further budget adjustments would follow standard procedures if additional midyear needs arise.
