The Wayne County Board of Education reviewed a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Phase 2 of the Rosewood construction project and heard an amended allocation request for previously awarded SCIF grant funds.
Dr. Harrell presented the GMP materials and told the board that following two rounds of bidding the project came in under prior estimates. He said the Phase 2 subtotal is $31,817,783.78 and identified selected alternates in the contract packet — notably an alternate for renovating the 7th–8th grade wing and an alternate for a new roof that added roughly $900,000 to the project total. Harrell said the alternates were chosen to allow interior connections between new and old buildings and to address code upgrades such as sprinklers and ceilings required when attaching new construction to older facilities. He said the district’s working group hoped to have legal review complete and issue a notice to proceed to the contractor, Daniels & Daniels, by April 1 if all approvals were secured.
Separately, the board took up an amendment to previously allocated SCIF grant funds (original total grant moneys and allocations were discussed). Counsel and staff described a written request from state Representative John Bell to reallocate funds: increasing the amount for C. B. A. Cott’s concession and restroom facility from the initially cited $175,000 to $491,250, with corresponding reductions to the amounts earmarked for two track projects so that the overall SCIF block grant remains balanced. The clerk noted the county commissioners were scheduled to consider a related resolution the next day.
Board members moved to approve the amendment pending legal review; the motion passed with no recorded opposition. Staff said the county commissioners would consider the companion item at their meeting and legal staff would review the board’s resolution before final execution.
Ending: The board will continue review of final contract language for Rosewood Phase 2 and the superintendent and legal counsel will coordinate with county staff and the commissioners on the SCIF grant reallocation.
