Committee Expands County Flag Policy to Honor All Fallen Service Members and First Responders

Lockhart said the proposed amendment would extend the same courtesy to “all service members in the county” as well as local first responders who died on duty. She said: “We can never repay these brave people, who died protecting our county and our country and our communities.”
Chair Cunningham and other legislators asked to be added as sponsors; the measure was moved and seconded and recorded as a unanimous vote. The amendment changes the county’s flag policy to permit recognition of local military and first-responder deaths; presenters described it as an honorific and symbolic recognition rather than a program creating benefits or compensation.
