Legislature issues proclamations honoring long‑time public servants, tenant advocates and youth sports leader

At its March 10 meeting the Albany County Legislature issued proclamations honoring several community figures for public service and local advocacy.
Chair Joanne Cunningham led the recognitions. The Legislature presented a proclamation for Bill Clay, a long‑time county legislator who retired at the end of 2024 after two decades of service; remarks noted Clay’s role in founding the legislative black caucus and his earlier service in state police. Clay’s son, Michael, accepted the proclamation on his father’s behalf.
The Legislature also honored Maria and Roger Markowitz for their work with United Tenants and related housing coalitions. Carolyn McLaughlin and other legislators praised the Markowitzes’ long record of tenant advocacy, land‑trust work and contributions to local housing initiatives.
Finally, the Legislature recognized Adam Evans, president of South Colony Girls Softball, who was named President of the Year by STACK Sports. Legislators noted Evans’ leadership of the youth softball program and invited coaches and league volunteers to the dais for recognition.
