Albany County Legislature Authorizes Axon Agreement to Expand Digital-evidence Access

Albany County legislators voted unanimously to authorize an agreement with Axon Enterprise to expand access to the county’s digital-evidence management system.
The measure adds seven additional user licenses to the Axon platform and replaces the county’s previous PDCMS system. Judge Harrick, who presented the request, said in committee: “Back in July, I appeared in front of you and requested authorization to change from PDCMS to Axon. This request for approval is to add 7 additional users, to licenses and users to that program. It is completely state funded through ILS. This is for our discovery receipt, the ability to review it and then, store it.”
The switch is described as aligning Albany County with other local law-enforcement organizations; legislators noted the district attorney’s office had moved to Axon earlier. Legislator Bergdorf asked whether the county would be on “a consistent product,” and Harrick confirmed it would. No county share or additional cost was discussed during the presentation; Judge Harrick said the change and the additional licenses are “completely state funded through ILS.”
A motion to approve was made and seconded, and the committee recorded the vote as unanimous.
The authorization alters only user access and storage licensing; no changes to policing policy or investigatory practice were described in the meeting. The committee did not take up any amendments and did not attach conditions tying the license expansion to additional reporting requirements.
