The Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee on March 4 recommended council approval of Budget Resolution 10-2025 to carry forward $42,680 in unspent 2024 capital funds to finish construction of pickleball courts at Brane Park.
Jennifer (Parks and Recreation staff) told the committee the $597,500 project began in 2024 and used debt service, room tax and community donations for funding. Construction is nearly complete; the remaining $42,680 will cover punch-list items expected to be finished in spring 2025.
Committee members questioned whether the remaining work included the fence requested by the Pickleball Association. Parks and Recreation staff said the punch-list includes wind screens that were back-ordered, practice boards and some internal court fencing, but the internal fencing the players requested to be installed inside the courts would be funded through private donations and is not part of the city’s $42,680 carryforward.
The committee moved and seconded the recommendation and voted in favor; the motion passed. Staff said the carried-forward funds will be appropriated in the 2025 budget so the city can close out the project.
