Broadwater County approves letter of intent seeking homemaker funding from Rocky Mountain Development Council

Broadwater County commissioners voted Feb. 19 to approve a letter of intent authorizing Broadwater County Public Health to apply for homemaker funding from the Rocky Mountain Development Council.
Ruby Taylor, Broadwater County public health director, told the commission the county is seeking $29,000 total for homemaker services. She described the request as covering wages for a part-time homemaker, $2,000 for supplies, $3,000 for administrative support and smaller amounts for respite and skilled nursing supports. Taylor said the county typically uses PILT funds to meet a $333 county match and that the county’s base funding from the area agency has not increased since 2014.
Taylor described the homemaker program as visits to elderly and disabled residents to provide cleaning, laundry and light errands; the homemaker also delivers food pantry packages and sometimes provides rides. She said the program serves roughly 16–17 clients and that referrals come from primary-care providers and community members. Taylor said skilled nursing services (medication set-up, injections) require medical orders and are documented separately.
Commissioners approved the letter of intent by voice vote with no public opposition.
Ending: The commission authorized the public-health department to file the application; staff said the department may need to scale program services if state or federal funding does not increase.
