The UPS replacement was approved to "fill[] in the gap between a power outage and [the] generator taking over," county project manager Scott Fogler said, and to prevent computer and telecommunications interruptions. The committee voted to move forward with Weber Electric's proposal after staff identified the firm as the most responsive bidder.
Fogler, identified as the project manager for the UPS work, told the committee the equipment will keep computers running during the short interval before generator backup engages and reduce the need to reset programs after outages. "It fills in the gap between a power outage and generator taking over," Fogler said. He described the replacement as overdue and said staff wanted to complete it before a system failure occurred.
The committee also approved a motion under County Board Rule 20-20 allowing Member Tompkins to attend the meeting electronically; the committee chair noted notice had been received and a motion to permit electronic attendance was moved by Member Duffy and seconded by Member Bell. The consent agenda, moved by Member Layman and seconded by Member Bell, included approval of the Feb. 4, 2025 regular meeting minutes, Jan. 16, 2025 stand-up meeting minutes and a recommendation to approve bills and transfers to the county board; the motion passed by voice vote.
In departmental reports, a county staff member identified in the meeting as Mr. Safa reported the sale of a 2002 Ford F-250 diesel, regular cab (Power Stroke). Staff said the county is preparing a condensed Master Plan survey with help from ISU and expects to send the survey around May 1. County Administrator Cassie Taylor said the animal control shelter building is about 65% complete and remains on schedule for a July completion; work reported includes exterior facade, windows, insulation, ceilings and drywall.
No members of the public signed up to speak during the public-comment portion of the meeting. The committee set its next meeting for April 8, 2025, at 5 p.m.
