The Parks Board approved moving one existing dock and adding two docks/fishing piers as part of ongoing boat-ramp and dock renovations connected to a larger project at Sanders Ferry and Mallard Point.
Parks staff explained the city is replacing three docks at Sanders Ferry and that two of those old docks could be repurposed. Staff proposed extending the current Mallard Point dock with one relocated dock and adding an additional dock/fishing pier at Mallard Point as well as another fishing pier at Memorial Park. The presentation noted visible public use of the shoreline for casual fishing and said the relocation would create a place to tie up kayaks and separate public fishing from business-operated kayak docking.
Staff reported the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had given preliminary approval and the city's insurance provider had reviewed the plan without objection. The board approved the proposal by motion and staff said the item will move forward with procurement and permitting as needed.
