Committee backs two resolutions: LPRF grant application and transportation CIP guidance

The Hendersonville Public Works Committee unanimously recommended approval of two resolutions on Feb. 25: a resolution to apply for the state Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) grant and a resolution providing additional guidance for the city’s 2025 Transportation Capital Improvement Plan.

The first measure, introduced by Alderman Garden and explained by a staff member identified as Andy, would authorize the city to apply for the 2025 round of LPRF grants. Andy said the grant round requires a 50-50 match and that the city hurried to submit because a prior active project would normally prevent an application. Committee discussion noted the city’s proposed package totals about $6.6 million in projects, of which the city’s cash match would be about $2 million, and that some of the match would be met by using an appraised property value subject to a deed restriction. The committee voted to recommend the resolution to the Board for approval; the committee chair announced the motion passed unanimously with a positive recommendation.

The second resolution, introduced by Alderman Roberson and Mayor Clary, directs staff to implement the transportation CIP and to pursue available GNRC grants. Committee members described the measure as implementation-focused: it authorizes staff to pursue funding opportunities and to move forward on spending and project execution consistent with the city’s Transportation CIP. The committee voted to recommend the resolution; the chair announced it passed unanimously.

Both recommendations will move to the full Board for final action.
