She cited a district budget total of about $130 million to $135 million and referenced a Department of Education grant figure of $156,627 for water-infrastructure improvements.
Caroline suggested using a community poll to determine spending priorities and argued that local taxpayers (she cited a figure near $90 million in local tax contributions) should have greater input. Committee members replied that the district is a representative body and that elected board members are responsible for budget decisions; staff noted budget workshops scheduled in April where detailed budget information will be presented.
The committee chair encouraged residents to attend the upcoming budget workshop for more complete explanations of the district’s budget and spending decisions.
