Commissioner Slater reported that House Bill 1383 has been filed to amend state law to require county board of education elections to be held on the same cycle as elections for members of the local legislative body.
"I believe the county should maintain the right to decide what is best for their community," Commissioner Slater said, and he announced he will place a resolution opposing the bill on the March 10 work session agenda so the commission can consider a formal position.
The chair and clerk noted that placing the item on the work-session agenda does not require an immediate vote; the commission will consider the resolution during the March 10 work session. No vote or formal action on the resolution occurred at this meeting.
