Board adopts industrial arts curriculum; district says most costs covered by CTE/industry funds

The School District No. Re-3 Fort Morgan Board of Education voted to adopt a revised industrial arts curriculum and associated equipment purchases after staff described funding and instructional benefits.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Assessment Lena Rasco told the board the industrial arts adoption includes new software (SolidWorks) and updated computer workstations; she said most of the purchases will be covered by CTE/industrial certificate funding rather than the general fund. Rasco said the district received about $90,000 in industrial certificate money this year that will pay for computers and certification training.
Rasco noted that a middle-school industrial arts teacher currently has adequate equipment, but a high-school instructor will receive updated drill presses and computers as part of the adoption. Board members moved and seconded the motion to approve the curriculum adoption; the motion carried by roll call with all members voting yes according to the minutes.
Staff said implementation will proceed once equipment is delivered and installation is complete; Rasco said much of the work should be in place for the coming school year.
