Tampa City Council proclaims Muslim Heritage Month, set observance during Ramadan

The Tampa City Council unanimously adopted a resolution at its Feb. 27 meeting declaring Feb. 28–Mar. 29, 2025, as Muslim Heritage Month in conjunction with Ramadan.
The resolution "encourages educational institutions, community organizations, businesses and residents to participate in activities and programs that honor and celebrate the contributions of the Muslim community." It also states the resolution takes effect immediately upon adoption.
Community members attending the meeting — including Grama Gasser and Ronnie Abdul — thanked the council and invited members to community events; organizers said an iftar (breaking of the fast) is planned for March 16 and said they would send invitations to council members.
Councilmembers indicated they would coordinate with the mayor’s office on an administration proclamation and accepted the resolution by voice vote.
