Susan Petrone, Framingham’s public communications officer, briefed the Board of License Commissioners on the city’s website accessibility work and how boards should submit form and content changes.
Petrone said the city is required by a U.S. Justice Department order to make public websites accessible to people with visual, hearing and cognitive disabilities; as a result, new and updated forms must be screen‑readable PDFs and will be made available in dozens of languages. “All of our new forms that are getting added to the website must go through the city's website,” Petrone said, adding the city is prioritizing critical forms and trying to meet a compliance threshold ahead of an April 2026 target.
Commissioners asked about editing content and timetables for changes. Petrone asked the commission to compile desired revisions into a list to submit through the licensing coordinator; she said most site changes can be turned around in roughly two weeks, while building a searchable backend database of licenses and permits would take longer and require coordination with the IT director. The licensing coordinator and commissioners agreed to identify forms for revision and follow the submission process Petrone outlined.
