DPW says Framingham has salt contracts with multiple vendors; deliveries this week increased supply

Bob Lewis, director of the Department of Public Works, told the subcommittee that Framingham holds contracts with three separate salt vendors and that two of those vendors are currently supplying the city. One vendor, based in Rhode Island, was reported by Lewis as out of salt; DPW staff suspect delivery or barge availability issues at the vendor.
Lewis said the city received two recent salt deliveries—one on Monday (a holiday) and a second the following day—adding roughly 1,000 tons to the city’s stockpiles. He said DPW maintains a working relationship with the state supplier and could request assistance if municipal supplies tighten.
The director also said crews continue snow‑cleanup operations and additional crews were scheduled for cleanup work the night of the meeting. Members thanked DPW for storm response and noted the city was in good shape for the immediate winter operations.
