Harnett County accepts ALA Library Transforming Communities grants for four branches

The Harnett County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a request from the Harnett County Public Library System to accept four Libraries Transforming Communities grants from the American Library Association, each worth $10,000.
A library representative identified only as Kimberly told commissioners that all four municipal branches that applied were awarded $10,000 each. The funds are nonmatching and will be used for Americans with Disabilities Act–related improvements to library buildings or parking areas, she said. “It is a non matching fund grant so there would be no matching funds from the county,” Kimberly said.
A motion to accept the grants carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The acceptance allows the library system to proceed with the projects and any grant-required reporting; no county funding contribution was requested at the meeting.
The action was taken during the meeting’s new business portion and the board authorized staff to accept the award and proceed under the grant terms.
