Two community members used the council's public-comment period to announce local volunteer efforts and thank City staff and volunteers.
Cynthia Pietro Diaz, identified herself as a public health analyst and a runner who lives in the Riverbank/Oakdale area and said she will host a community cleanup focused on the intersection of Patterson Road and Eighth Street on Monday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. She said the cleanup will emphasize removing tobacco and other toxic litter, that she had observed concentrated litter at transit stops during runs, and that Public Works will provide hauling support for collected material.
Darlene Barbara Martinez thanked volunteers for the city's senior citizen Christmas brunch and Toys for Tots distribution, saying organizers served nearly 400 students and about 53 families during holiday events and that volunteer turnout made the events successful.
Both speakers said they are eager to continue community collaborations with the city.
