Stanislaus consolidated fire district reports improved ISO rating, expanded paramedic staffing and notable industrial fire response

Charlie Neal of the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District briefed the council during public comment on department staffing, a reclassification by the Insurance Services Office and a recent industrial fire response.
Neal said the district's ISO rating moved from Class 3 to Class 2 following a review by the Insurance Services Office; the new rating takes effect in March 2025. He credited partnerships with neighboring agencies and contacts for the improved rating.
Neal congratulated recently certified medics -- Captain Austin Luna, Captain Michael Crabtree and Engineer Coye Wesley -- and said the district currently has 16 paramedics providing advanced life support across five fire stations, with a goal of 18 paramedics by the end of 2025.
He also summarized a large industrial incident: Engine 26 responded first to a machine fire inside a can-coating facility that caused an estimated $1,000,000 in damage. Crews created an emergency exit to allow safe access, worked about three hours to cool the machine and made the area safe before opening the equipment to fully extinguish remaining fire. Neal described challenges including the fire's location deep inside the building, elevated machinery that hampered direct access and initial heat that rendered catwalks unsafe.
Neal also reported community outreach and donation partnerships organized by board president Bernard and others supporting hurricane victims.
