Community staff presented an updated interlocal agreement for the city's participation in the South County Area Transportation Board (SCATB), commonly referred to in the meeting as "Skateboard." Staff said the update streamlines language, clarifies coordination with adjacent subregions, and removes redundancies.
"The purpose of Skateboard is that it represents agencies with responsibilities for all modes of transportation in South King County," staff said, noting SCATB's role in interagency cooperation, advocacy before county, state and federal bodies, and participation in the Puget Sound Regional Council process for regional federal fund distribution.
Councilmember Susan Honda, who said she chairs SCATB this year, encouraged full support and noted the $100 annual fee is intended to cover meeting incidentals for in-person operations. She urged members not to propose changes to the negotiated text so King County could proceed with its ratification.
The committee voted to forward the agreement to the March 18, 2025 consent agenda by voice vote with an "Aye." Staff will include the agreement for council consent and pursue King County action to complete interagency ratification.
