The Select Board authorized the town manager to spend up to $6,000 to obtain two independent fee estimates required for Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding.
The airport manager (presenting) said two airport projects — a taxi-lane design and a crack-seal/stripping job — both require independent fee estimates prepared by an engineer not otherwise affiliated with the prime contractor. An independent estimate for the taxi-lane project is complete; the town has received documents for the second estimate but had not yet proceeded. The manager asked authorization to procure both independent fee estimates at $3,000 each, for a total not to exceed $6,000. He explained the costs are reimbursable through the AIP once the projects are completed.
The board moved, seconded and approved the authorization. The manager said Jacob Engineering prepared one estimate and the other estimate would be procured from a different engineering firm to meet the program requirement.
The board recorded that the procurement and estimates are a required step before applying for or drawing AIP reimbursement and that the town expects to recover the expense after project completion.
