Superintendent proposes administrative restructuring; board to consider policy changes next meeting

Superintendent Dr. Peeley told the District 99 board he will recommend administrative policy updates to realign district leadership ahead of an anticipated retirement and a recent resignation.

Peeley said the district will separate the associate superintendent position (the district second in command and succession authority) from the assistant superintendent for student learning. The district will create an assistant superintendent for student learning role that will not take effect until July 1, 2026; this timing will allow the district to appoint the position and implement the operational split.

Because of a recent resignation and a planned retirement, Peeley said the district also intends to revert to a traditional organizational format in which human resources is housed under an assistant superintendent role distinct from student learning. Compliance and complaints duties (now with the assistant superintendent for student learning) will move to the assistant superintendent for human resources; professional development responsibilities will align with the director of staff experiences. The superintendent said these policy changes will be presented to the board as first reading tonight and returned on the consent agenda at the next meeting so associated personnel actions may be taken.

Peeley told the board the district will notify staff about the reorganization to avoid surprises and invited board members to send questions before the next meeting. The board did not act on the policies at this session; formal policy changes and personnel actions will be included with the consent agenda at the next board meeting.
