Board directs documents to approve third wall sign for GolfVX at 644 E. Rand Rd.

The Arlington Heights Village Board on March 3 directed staff and the village attorney to prepare final documents approving sign-variation requests for GolfVX at 644 East Rand Road.

Planner Michelle Radman presented the request and site images, saying the tenant's building faces an angle of three streets (Palatine, Willow and Rand) and that customers entering from Palatine do not readily see the store. Radman described the request as two variations from Chapter 30 of the municipal code: to allow three wall signs where two are permitted and to allow a 44.54-square-foot wall sign on the west facade where none is allowed.

Radman said the Design Commission unanimously recommended approval at its Feb. 11 meeting. Mayor Hayes and trustees expressed support for the business and for measures to help it succeed. "We want to be business friendly here in our community," Hayes said.

Trustee Tonilia moved to direct staff and the village attorney to prepare final documents approving the requested relief (Design Commission file DC 24-092), subject to the conditions listed in the meeting packet; Trustee Schwingbeck seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.

The board's action directs staff to return final ordinance language and documents for formal adoption at a future meeting; the Design Commission's recommended conditions were not changed on the record.

The property is in the Southpointe Shopping Center near Floor & Decor and At Home. The petitioner said additional signage will make the storefront visible to drivers on adjacent roadways and help fill a space that has appeared vacant to passersby.
