RCS board appoints Matt Miller as NISBA voting delegate after reviewing annual resolutions

The Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Central School District Board of Education on Tuesday designated Board member Matt Miller as the districts voting delegate for the New York statewide school-board associations annual meeting, which the board was told will be held virtually on Oct. 16.

Board members discussed how the delegate process works: the delegate receives the proposed resolutions and bylaws, reports back to the board and casts a vote that reflects the boards position. The board president described the role: whoever is designated "would study the proposed resolutions, report to the board on what they are, and then collectively we would come to a position."

Board members noted the schedule is tight. One board member said the association had published roughly "34 or so" resolutions and three bylaw changes; written forms that express agreement, disagreement or suggested amendments are due ahead of the annual business meeting. Board members agreed they would review the packet and attempt to take any board position before the meeting; if time did not permit, the delegate could still act on the boards behalf at the meeting and submit positions later though those positions might not appear in the published meeting book.

Matt Miller agreed to serve if no one else volunteered. A motion to appoint Miller carried on a voice vote recorded in the transcript as unanimous. Staff said they would send the resolution materials to the board and assist with registration.
