Two board members announce departures; trustees reflect on service and recruitment process

Two members of the Beacon City School District Board of Education announced they will leave the board during the Aug. 25 meeting.
Board member Kristen said the Aug. 25 meeting would be her last. She said professional changes require a more flexible schedule and that she intended to step away rather than remain “half in, half out.” She noted she was originally appointed and later ran in an election and urged the board to consider that the election process provides clearer onboarding and community involvement than appointments.
Board member Anthony said he also is leaving the board after 12 years because he received a promotion and will work with the district in a different capacity; he said volunteerism repaid him many times over and urged volunteers to “stay in your lane” and to leave operations to administrators while trustees focus on policy and oversight.
Board members and the superintendent paid public thanks to both trustees for years of service and said they would miss their institutional knowledge and candid input. Superintendent Matt Bridal thanked both for their support during his superintendent transition and praised their efforts to improve district operations and community engagement.
No formal board action on replacements or appointments was taken during the meeting. Board members said they would handle next steps through the usual governance processes and that appointment/election options could be considered in the coming weeks.
